Part I

The chart above shows the popularity of social media platforms using google trends. While google trends does not allow us to see the actual number of users for a given platform, it does allow us to see the total number of times that a given term was searched on google. This can give us insight into the popularity of social media platforms over time. This chart focuses on social media platforms that have a strong video presence and is limited to the past five years. While it is clear that Youtube has dominated this area of social media, the rise of social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok seem to have led to a decline in Youtube’s popularity. Meanwhile, the aforementioned competitors are on the rise. The majority of streamable content on Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok is far shorter and allows for much quicker consumption than the thousands of videos uploaded to Youtube everyday. The rise of such platforms and the decline of Youtube indicates a clear shift in the consumer’s need for more bite-sized easily consumable content.

Part II

The pie charts above show the results of two different tests. Test one received a score of 160 out of 200 while Test two received a score of 25.6 out of 32. While it may initially seem like test two received a higher score based on the numbers, the pie charts above show that both tests received the same score of eighty percent. Because test one missed 40 points and test two only missed 6.4, it is easy to assume that test two is the far better result, however, when we look at the percentages of the whole we can see the full picture.

Part III

The chart above compares the 2018 NFL season’s best and worst quarterbacks based on their number of touchdowns, interceptions, sacks, completion percentage, and quarterback rating. The grouped column chart is the best type of chart for this dataset as it helps viewers easily compare the two quarterbacks in each category.

Part IV

The chart above shows the change in job growth in the United states from 1990 to 2017. The chart visually displays the damaging effects of three recessions on unemployment. The grey bars distinguish these periods of rapid economic decline and highlight some of the most difficult economic times in American history.
